. . . a group of dedicated Christians, working within the boundaries of existing Presbyterian Church (USA) policy. Through education and dialogue, we strive to open barriers in order to permit gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) people to serve openly as clergy, elders, and deacons within the denomination.

That All May Freely Serve is a mission project of Downtown United Presbyterian Church (Rochester NY) in partnership with Westminster Presbyterian Church (Tiburon CA). As such, That All May Freely Serve therefore has the same tax status as the sponsoring church and qualifies as a 501(c)(3) organization under IRS rules. Please confirm your personal tax situation regarding the tax-deductibility of contributions.

Mission

Called by the life and teachings of Jesus, compelled by our faith and charged by our conscience, we advocate for an inclusive church that honors diversity and welcomes lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons as full members. Full membership includes eligibility for ordination to the offices of elder, deacon, and pastor.

Actions which implement this mission:

  • Building and coordinating a national network of regional partnerships.
  • Encouraging regional partnerships to employ/call ministers of outreach/evangelism.
  • Collaborating with the leadership of More Light Presbyterians and other advocates for justice.
  • Educating and engaging in dialogue with members of faith communities, colleges, and universities, and other groups to further this work of justice.

Regional Partnerships

Our model of ministry includes "personing the issue" of GLBT inclusiveness. One of the ways to do this is to build and strengthen local and regional networks of GLBT people and supporters. Open Story

Ten-Year History

In 2001, That All May Freely Serve celebrated the tenth anniversary of Downtown United Presbyterian Church's call for Rev. Dr. Jane Adams Spahr to be its pastor. TAMFS published the booklet titled "From Call to Partnership: A 10-year history of That All May Freely Serve." Open Story
